My Design Philosophy

In the past, people used to get together spaces. I think it was an excellent mode to promote communication, so I chose to design I like to design to enable communication between buildings. The exchange between buildings may be more able to promote communication between people, by doing so you increase engagement, which is interesting. We can use space to create a communication space for people to enable them to communicate better.

The meaning of balance

The meaning of balance lies in how people choose between gains and losses amidst contradictions. Equilibrium refers to the state of an object or system, where it remains unchanged unless influenced by external factors. In this state, there are no spontaneous changes, and the correlation between quantities remains parallel, ensuring constancy.

The expression of balance

The expression of balance on the graph is generally regular symmetry, the first impression of the curve is not the first expression of balance, but the curve has a certain equilibrium relationship

Balance in a curve

Balance in a curve is reflected in its texture and symmetrical shape, as is the feeling of symmetry between the left and right side of the curve or weight on both sides of the curve

Balance in nature

There's a lot of balance in nature. Rocks are cracked by the earth, but they're not broken. It's a balance in nature

Final Design Scheme

Shanheng sculpture exhibition hall

Although the existence of cracks makes people feel weak on the surface of rocks, there is a balanced relationship inside them. Therefore, what seems to be unbalanced also has its meaning of existence, depending on what kind of angle the viewer stands in.

Final Design Proposal

Cracks on rock surfaces evoke a sense of weakness, yet within lies an inherent equilibrium. Imbalance or balance is subjective, shaped by the viewer's perspective or angle. The significance of existence resides in the discovery of purpose within apparent unbalance. The cracks, though initially disconcerting, reveal hidden depth and remind us of the intricate interplay between strength and vulnerability in nature.

General Views

Inside a large area of glass and marble material, marble material is relatively heavy, glass looks relatively light, glass needs to add other objects to increase the sense of weight

Design Narrative

Balance: The balance between man and the environment. The balance between artworks and the environment. The production of artworks requires some consumption. The balance between people. Relationship: Concrete and brick structure. On one hand, the concrete-brick structure is very strong, so it requires its elements to achieve balance. On the other hand, the concrete-brick structure is created for human development, but it also causes some damage, which relates to the balance between the environment and development. Balance is not only about achieving seemingly attainable needs, but also about balancing the cultures and skills that are rapidly developing and being forgotten by us. I dream that we should pay attention to balance in order to achieve better goals. Inspiration: Libra suggests that it needs to reach a certain weight to avoid shaking from side to side. Let people notice that there is a balanced relationship between everything, and we should pay attention to balance. Only when both sides achieve a certain balance can they sit safely.

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

The address is located in Quyang County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, which is a well-known hometown of sculpture and the site of Ding porcelain. The original site was Quyang Hotel. Because the hotel changed to a new site, the old site was gradually forgotten and became an abandoned building. It is surrounded by residential areas, and the streets are commercial areas. There are middle schools and primary schools in front, so there will be teachers' apartments. The famous Beiyue Temple is in the southwest, and many tourists visit it every year. The location is south of the commercial street. The west side is the main road of the city, the north side is the provincial road, and the side is the central road of the city. There are many trails around, and the traffic is convenient. The roads in the city are distributed in the shape of Tian Zi, and the surrounding provincial roads and national roads are interlaced. Before ten o'clock in the morning, this street is the least crowded in a day. From ten to five o'clock at noon, the traffic is the largest, mostly for eating and shopping. Among them, 30% are students, 20% are teachers, 10% are tourists, and 5% are children and migrant workers.

Part II: Site Representation

From above, the frame system of brick-concrete structure is like a grid. Each grid has an intersection point, and each grid is connected with each other, which reminds me of the bee's nest. Each nest hole is a hexagon. The combination of each hexagon makes it reach a balance, just like that of brick-concrete structure. Balance is the theme of the place, derived from the relationship between people, the relationship between people and things, and the relationship between things. Brick-concrete structure is strong because its internal elements achieve a certain balance. The rapid development of society has resulted in high-rise buildings and low houses. From the surface, this is unbalanced, but they play a role in their respective fields, thus promoting the balance of society. Some balance exists in very conspicuous places, and some balance is only hidden in the depths. Balanced relationships can promote better social development, bringing people a better life. This is also the truth of long-term survival.

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: Generation Z and Self Identification

'... the new people don't have much social pressure and life pressure, and have more time to pay attention to other emotional needs. '

The network information age at birth

Generation Z (1995-2010) can be traced back to China Youth Research. ( Victoria , C 2016) The new people in this age are seamlessly connected with the network information age at birth, and are greatly influenced by digital information technology, instant messaging equipment, smart phone products, etc. Therefore, in this background, the new people don't have much social pressure and life pressure, and have more time to pay attention to other emotional needs. Compared with the Y era, the Z era does not have too much pressure in the material accumulation of the Y era, and can enjoy and entertain at the moment of technological development. In the Z era of information development, some people's cognition, thinking, behavior and habits have changed. Some people think that contemporary young people pay more attention to the sense of labels, but I think contemporary young people pay more attention to self-feeling and self-loveBlack and white color is the background of the changes of the times, in a big society, people are under bondage, it is this trapped background, will someone strive to break through this background, bloom their brilliance, shine.

Part II:  Pre-generation Z and Self Identification

'They live in the development of science and technology, learn technical skills and are good at using them ....  people in the Y era are better at satisfying their own needs and having a clear goal than focusing on the sense of value.'

High-speed social development

Under the current high-speed social development, people's lives have been quickened, and everything has been accelerated. People divide their time and money into equal values, install scales in their lives, and define the value of their lives. This is a society that values value.(Laura,L,2015) In this context, the people in the Y-era (1980-1995) are regarded as the times that value the most. Generation Y, also known as Millennials, has experienced the popularization and transformation of the Internet. They live in the development of science and technology, learn technical skills and are good at using them. However, I think people in the Y era are better at satisfying their own needs and having a clear goal than focusing on the sense of value. People in this era pay special attention to the satisfaction of their own needs, meeting their own needs needs to be pursued step by step, high-quality life requires their own efforts to achieve, whether it is material or spiritual, people are developing in their own fields

Part III: Generations and Community

'The people of the two eras of the Z era and the Y era, whether spiritual or otherwise, have different performances in various aspects due to the different development background.'

A variety of performances

For example, in life, they all pay attention to quality life, but their comfort zones are different. One pays more attention to the expression of real feelings and has deep attention in life, while the other pays attention to network communication and has superficial attention in life The people of the two eras of the Z era and the Y era, whether spiritual or otherwise, have different performances in various aspects due to the different development backgrounds of each era, and because of the integration of the development of the era, the two eras are intertwined
