My Design Philosophy

Design is not only a cold building, but also a shelter for life and emotional sustenance. Although modern architecture has upgraded its materials and improved its quality of life, people seem to be increasingly lacking in spiritual sustenance. I hope to return to simplicity, explore the essence of living, find a natural and harmonious way of living together, give the space a warm and humanized feeling, and integrate it into modern design.

Generational understanding

This is based on the situation of the increasing work pressure of young people, through the classification of different generations and understanding the behavioral habits of different generations, the elderly can be accompanied and the young can be relaxed. It is also a "bond" that connects the community together.

Slider image

The concept of bond

From the concept of bond, many elements are derived, including DNA strand structure, topology structure, knot structure, series structure. The elements are abstracted into the most basic geometric form and utilized. The elements are transformed from abstract to concrete.

The extension of elements

Through the extension of the elements on the element board, many interesting forms can be obtained, and different elements are "defined" according to the needs of different groups, and elements are reinterpreted from both abstract and concrete perspectives. The design method of modularization is obtained, the community planning method is obtained

Design development

In this part, the three-dimensional space to be used in the design is developed based on the elements obtained from the transformation of two-dimensional graphics, and the body is analyzed based on the structure and operation methods (topological structure, Boolean operation method, modularity) obtained in two-dimensional.

Final Design Proposal

This community is clearly next to the next community, but it is cut off by a wall. Therefore, my design target is to take this community as the divergence point, radiate the surrounding communities in a planned way, break the "walls" in the community (physical walls and walls in people's minds)

General Views

It is hoped that the design can change the gap between generations , and at the same time, it is hoped that the community can become a place full of children's laughter. And through the organic architectural form, rich space, break the cold appearance of modern architecture, and awaken people

Design Narrative

Students theme  My design plan focuses on embracing. When people interact with devices, the soft cotton material brings a feeling of healing. By adding some curves and circles in the background, it can bring a feeling of relaxation, warmth, and stress relief. The central part is designed as an arm, and when people pass by, they can feel the healing feeling brought by embracing this design element. People can use this device to relieve stress, rediscover their own state, and face life in a brand new way.
Comfortable and soft materials relieve stress by reducing pressure points and providing support with a soft cotton surface. When people are under pressure, their bodies are subjected to pressure from different parts of the body, such as the shoulders, waist, and hips. Soft materials can provide soft support in these areas, reduce body pressure, and make people feel more comfortable and relaxed. In addition, soft materials can provide a comfortable touch, promote relaxation and relieve body stress, help improve sleep quality, and reduce body fatigue.
By stacking and combining blocks, the device has a fluffy and soft characteristic, which can make people feel a hug-like comfort and security. Let them feel the emotion of being alone yet seemingly accompanying.
This design aims to create a unique experience through the contact between materials and the human body, allowing people to temporarily forget about the external environment and obtain a temporary sense of comfort and security.

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

Zhangzhuang Village, Liusong Town, Xianghe County, Langfang City, Hebei Province, is adjacent to farmland to the north, farmland to the south, Liusong Town to the west, and Jinxinzhuang Village, Tianjin City to the east. This location is located in the north of Zhangzhuang Village, adjacent to farmland to the north, health clinics and village roads to the south, self-built houses by residents to the west, restaurants, bathing centres, repair shops, restaurants, and primary schools to the west, and self-built houses and breakfast shops by residents to the east. There is a T-shaped intersection on the south side of the road to the south of the location, with supermarkets, feed factories, and self-built houses on both sides of the intersection, and a pond further south.

Part II: Site Representation

Narrative:

Cement, also known as "cement", has a long history and is widely used as an important cementitious material in civil engineering, water conservancy, national defence, and other projects Red bricks and cement are common in every household in the village. When people see them, they can associate their hometown and past experiences. At the same time, they accompany the growth and life of the villagers and evoke memories of childhood During the hardening process of cement, due to dehydration or the influence of low-temperature difference, uneven expansion and contraction may occur, resulting in cracks, ash formation, or exposure of stones due to external weathering and collision on the surface Breathability
During the process of cement hardening, water reacts with cement to generate hydration products. As the reaction progresses, hydrates are filled in the cement to form interconnected pores and pipelines. These holes and pipes allow air and water to pass through, thus giving cement a certain degree of breathability. The combination of cement and acid can undergo a chemical reaction. Acid reacts with calcium carbonate in cement to produce carbon dioxide gas, leaving space for gas release on the surface of cement. Small pores corroded by acid appear one after another, which are used as elements
These pores generated by the reaction with acid did not cause cracking of the cement, so this test was successful. These pores make the cement more breathable but are softer and have weaker load-bearing capacity compared to before the experiment. They can be used for decoration, etc

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: Generation Z and Self Identification

"...the generation that has been exposed to electronic technology since childhood. They are the natives of digital technology..."

Landscape of Generation Z

Generation z is the generation that has been exposed to electronic technology since childhood. They are the natives of digital technology and have grown up around the Internet and electronic technology. This generation lacks their own exploration of life and the world, the process of finding and solving problems in their exploration, and is shrouded in heavy pressure, less innocent and innocent as some children should be.

They grow up on the Internet, and usually express their opinions in the Internet, along with the emergence of various social software, they make friends on the Internet and relieve the pressure. At the same time, it also makes people's vision become narrow. Social media will push content that people are interested in according to their preferences, and push relevant content according to their identities. As people watch and express their views, they will be pushed more similar views, and people will magnify certain views infinitely, resulting in a high degree of single information and affecting the establishment of values.

Part II:  Generation Y and Self Identification

"People in this era use their own ways to adapt to this kind of life situation.."

Navigating the Digital Shift and Societal Changes

Generation y, also known as "millennials", is the first generation in the Internet environment. Most of Generation Y are confident, optimistic, persistent and opinionated. Generation y is in an era of social change. In life, people begin to be constantly impacted by the Internet, and they are forced to adapt to a complex and diversified world. People's horizons are constantly broadened and their thoughts are freer. The continuous development of the economy puts people under increasing pressure. "90" as a large group of Generation Y, reflects the characteristics of The Times, they pay attention to freedom and life pressure, the spirit of loneliness, often self-centred, through strange hair and makeup, like to reflect their own loneliness and difference, the pursuit of personality, alternative rebel.
People in this era use their own ways to adapt to this kind of life situation. This restless and daring way of expression reflects their negative but positive self-exploration that they are unwilling to be ordinary and uncomfortable with the status quo.

Part III: Generations and Community

"..They have different life backgrounds and age differences, as well as connections and similarities.'

Diverging Paths

Generation Z and Generation Y are two different groups, representing different ages and values. They have different life backgrounds and age differences, as well as connections and similarities. Both Generation Z and Generation Y have grown up under the influence of the Internet, and both pay attention to life, pursue personal development and growth, and have higher autonomy.
However, Gen Z and Gen Y are also different in some ways. For example, Generation Z has experienced more traditional education and training, while Generation Y has accepted more modern education methods, relying more on the Internet and digital resources for learning and knowledge acquisition. In terms of architectural ideas, Generation Z may pay more attention to architectural practicality, and they have been exposed to more traditional buildings in the process of growing up, and have higher requirements for comfort. Generation Y, on the other hand, is more innovative and environmentally friendly. In the process of growing up, they are more exposed to modern buildings and pay more attention to the intelligent and sustainable development level of buildings.
