My Design Philosophy

My design inspiration comes from my life experiences and the moments I see in books or movies that inspire me.

Generational understanding

This is based on the situation of the increasing work pressure of young people, through the classification of different generations and understanding the behavioral habits of different generations, the elderly can be accompanied and the young can be relaxed. It is also a "bond" that connects the community together.

Slider image

The concept of bond

From the concept of bond, many elements are derived, including DNA strand structure, topology structure, knot structure, series structure. The elements are abstracted into the most basic geometric form and utilized. The elements are transformed from abstract to concrete.

The extension of elements

Through the extension of the elements on the element board, many interesting forms can be obtained, and different elements are "defined" according to the needs of different groups, and elements are reinterpreted from both abstract and concrete perspectives. The design method of modularization is obtained, the community planning method is obtained

Design development

In this part, the three-dimensional space to be used in the design is developed based on the elements obtained from the transformation of two-dimensional graphics, and the body is analyzed based on the structure and operation methods (topological structure, Boolean operation method, modularity) obtained in two-dimensional.

Final Design Proposal

This community is clearly next to the next community, but it is cut off by a wall. Therefore, my design target is to take this community as the divergence point, radiate the surrounding communities in a planned way, break the "walls" in the community (physical walls and walls in people's minds)

General Views

It is hoped that the design can change the gap between generations , and at the same time, it is hoped that the community can become a place full of children's laughter. And through the organic architectural form, rich space, break the cold appearance of modern architecture, and awaken people

Community Project - Participant’s Installation

Design Narrative

Students theme  Starting from a single root, two different branches with different perspectives (connecting the previous tree root spread) are dispersed, namely advocating for fertility and rejecting fertility. Future life projects can be represented through both visual and auditory aspects. In terms of visual aspects, some photo installations can be made. For example, in the branch advocating for not having children, some photos of women's body deformation and experiencing pain after childbirth can be placed, as well as pictures of physical changes caused by postpartum depression. In advocating for having children, some scenes of intimacy and happiness between mother and son can be displayed. In terms of sound, one branch is the sound of babies crying and mothers crying and giving birth, while the other branch is the joyful laughter and interaction between mother and child.

Form a contrast. I want to make a special chair, the support part with different lengths and heights of support, the chair cushion part with a soft sponge, the user only gently and find the right posture to sit on the sponge can not be hurt. If you are heavy all the time and don't look for the rules to sit on it, you will destroy the sponge, and the sponge represents the child.

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

I chose an old neighbourhood. It is located in Xiguan Street, Lianchi District, Baoding City, Hebei Province, China (opposite the police station). Opposite the community is a fishing supplies store, next to West Street, is a commercial street, and behind the community is an Intime department store. There are many schools near the community. Therefore, the largest group of people in the community is a family of three to rent a house for their children to go to school. There is a commercial street next to the community with many young people. But just one street away, it's like two worlds away, and there's nothing on this side of the street to attract young people.

There is a shop for fishing supplies near the community, so there are more old people near the community, these old people are chatting in the nearby hotel, and there is no special place to rest. I think it is because this is an old community, but it is not a unit of housing, so most of the people who live here are old people and migrant workers, and the people who live here don't know each other. So they lack communication and are not as well off financially.

Part II: Site Representation

Narrative:

The item I chose for the location was mildew on the wall. The key words are: colourful, building blocks, stacking, soft, interconnecting, relaxed, round. And through my analysis of mildew spots, I found that although mildew is a symbol of decay, the process of mildew is colourful. So I did a colour experiment with the mould process. I used different materials to simulate the musty colours. I found that material and colour have an impact on people's emotions and moods. Furry bright colours make people feel reliable and happy. The dim colour and relatively hard material will make people feel a sense of distance and do not want to touch.

Honours Project

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: Generation Z has turned themselves into commodities

"I choose eyeballs to represent ourselves, when we go outside to read these messages, we dress ourselves up in colours, hoping to get others' praise."

merit-based society on the mental well-being of Generation Z.

My theme is that Gen Z sees itself as a commodity. In this society, competition and performance are overemphasized and everyone is exploiting themselves. Now, only what gets attention has value, so we treat ourselves as commodities. My theme is that Gen Z sees itself as a commodity. It is because in Generation Z I find that spiritual internal friction is very serious, and this phenomenon is caused by the current era of a "merit society". My elements are gaze, information, and pressure. I choose eyeballs to represent ourselves, when we go outside to read these messages, we dress ourselves up in colours, hoping to get others' praise. I chose the big and small balls to represent all kinds of information we see in the Internet age, which is also selected and limited. The hand covering the eyes represents the present age, in which it is ourselves who exploit us, who cause our internal friction, who drive us to death, which is the main cause of our internal friction.

Part II: Generation X Chinese mother: A sense of blurred boundaries

"Blurring the lines between mother and child, these mothers need to learn to provide appropriate attention to their children."

parenting amidst digitalization and societal pressures.

There are a lot of Generation X managers, so parents of this generation generally have a very serious sense of crisis. It means that parents have a lot of constraints on their children, and management is very strict. This leads to a weak sense of boundary between parents and children, which has a lot of negative effects on children's development. The keywords I chose were overfocused, pain, growth, and closure. The rose represents the over-concerned protection of Generation X Chinese parents when we were growing up, and this blurred line is a double-edged sword.

The sharp stick stands for the trouble that boundary-sensitive parents bring to their children. The stacked blocks represent us as we grow. The burning paper tube stands next to the box. The paper tube represents the mother's attention to us and keeps us tightly enclosed. The sharp edges of the paper represent the weak sense of boundary for Generation X as parents, who think that the protection of our airtight air is good, while the burning represents our resistance and misunderstanding formed by persistent parents.

Part III: Balancing parental protection and personal autonomy: Finding a balance between independence and kinship

"Young people often face a common problem: how to balance the protection and affection of their parents while pursuing independence....."

Striking a balance between family support and individual independence

In contemporary society, young people often face a common problem: how to balance the protection and affection of their parents while pursuing independence and personal autonomy. This issue not only involves personal growth and development, but also relates to the stability of family relationships, so it is an issue at needs serious thinking and resolution. The keywords I chose were love, imbalance and protection. The ribbon symbolizes the protection of our parents, who surround us with nothing. The relationship between us and our parents is like a ribbon that needs a good balance.

The cross represents love and redemption. The cross itself should be symmetrical, but it is difficult to pursue balance in love. So I used scattered bars, unbalanced love can become a sharp sword, so I turned the head into a sharp triangle. We are the flowers in the garden. This pergola represents our parents' protection.
