My Design Philosophy

I am very glad to be a designer. Design is a multi-faceted course, integrating various subjects such as sociology, philosophy, etc., which makes the process of design a very interesting one, and my passion also comes from it. In the exploration of each project, I feel different cultural customs and cultures, which has become my favourite stage. The design process is like a journey, a pilgrimage, in which I accumulate strength and reach the temple in my heart at the end of the journey.

Generational understanding

This is based on the situation of the increasing work pressure of young people, through the classification of different generations and understanding the behavioral habits of different generations, the elderly can be accompanied and the young can be relaxed. It is also a "bond" that connects the community together.

Slider image

The concept of bond

From the concept of bond, many elements are derived, including DNA strand structure, topology structure, knot structure, series structure. The elements are abstracted into the most basic geometric form and utilized. The elements are transformed from abstract to concrete.

The extension of elements

Through the extension of the elements on the element board, many interesting forms can be obtained, and different elements are "defined" according to the needs of different groups, and elements are reinterpreted from both abstract and concrete perspectives. The design method of modularization is obtained, the community planning method is obtained

Design development

In this part, the three-dimensional space to be used in the design is developed based on the elements obtained from the transformation of two-dimensional graphics, and the body is analyzed based on the structure and operation methods (topological structure, Boolean operation method, modularity) obtained in two-dimensional.

Final Design Proposal

This community is clearly next to the next community, but it is cut off by a wall. Therefore, my design target is to take this community as the divergence point, radiate the surrounding communities in a planned way, break the "walls" in the community (physical walls and walls in people's minds)

General Views

It is hoped that the design can change the gap between generations , and at the same time, it is hoped that the community can become a place full of children's laughter. And through the organic architectural form, rich space, break the cold appearance of modern architecture, and awaken people

Community Project - Participant’s Installation

Design Narrative

Students theme  The relationship between the property and the owners of the community is rigid, and the interpersonal relationship between people is rigid. The inaction of the property leads to improper management of the community, ageing facilities, illegal parking, cars occupying the crosswalk, and the park of the community being occupied by cars. As the management organization of the property community, turns a blind eye instead of effective management, the residents of the community do not form a clear organization to report problems. Some people feel that their problems do not affect their lives, so they choose not to talk about it, which leads to owners unable to unite to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests
The objective of my future endeavours is to design an installation that effectively portrays the intricate dynamics between individuals, as well as their interactions within communities, with the ultimate aim of instilling inspiration. Therefore, part of my future life is to create an installation to reflect the relationship between people, people and communities, so as to play an inspirational role

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

This community is a community of residents, but this place used to be a small supermarket, a place for people to stay and chat for a short time, which is convenient for communication and life. Later, this supermarket was abandoned, people lacked such a gathering place for a short time, and the community they lived in lacked the humanistic factors of the former human taste,After redesign and utilization planning, it can solve the problem of cars occupying the park so that people have no place to rest and relax, it can improve people's relationships and the stability of the community, as well as provide a place to rest like a station, it can also improve people's mobility and improve people's happiness but The relationship between the property and the owners of the community is rigid, and the interpersonal relationship between people is rigid.

The inaction of the property leads to improper management of the community, aging facilities, illegal parking, cars occupying the crosswalk, and the park of the community is occupied by cars. As the management organization of the property community, it turns a blind eye instead of effective management, and the residents of the community do not form a clear organization to report problems. Some people feel that their problems do not affect their lives, so they choose not to talk about it, which leads to owners unable to unite to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests

Part II: Site Representation

Narrative:

First of all, as a building in its own community, it can continuously attract owners of all ages to rest and talk here, because my building mainly serves modern life and provides communication functions to facilitate life, so that residents of the community will continue to come here, and there are primary schools and vocational high schools in the community, which will continuously attract people. In this way, some shops and vegetable markets in the community can use this to develop the economy, driving the fragmented economy of the community. At the same time, through the planning and logical setting of the building functions, it will become a "characteristic" device in the community to attract outside people to take photos and clock in, shaping the effect of Internet celebrity attractions and Internet celebrity economy.

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: Generation x through time

"One of the biggest social issues facing Generation X is the impact of economic globalization, which has led to the outsourcing of jobs."

Globalisation and generation X

Generation X is a demographic cohort that includes individuals born between the early 1960s and late 1970s. Members of this generation have faced a variety of social issues, both during their formative years and in their adult lives. One of the biggest social issues facing Generation X is the impact of economic globalization, which has led to the outsourcing of jobs and increased competition for employment opportunities. This has contributed to a decline in economic security and social mobility for many members of this generation.
Another social issue affecting Generation X is the rise of technological advances, which has had a significant impact on their personal and professional lives. While technology has created new opportunities and efficiencies, it has also contributed to social isolation and a decline in face-to-face communication.
Furthermore, members of Generation X have also had to navigate issues related to changing family structures, including a rise in divorce rates and non-traditional family arrangements. Additionally, they have faced ongoing challenges related to discrimination and inequality based on gender, race, sexual orientation, and other factors.

Part II:  The Legacy of China's Generation X

"This generation regards the iconic figures of the time as role models, with their virtues and actions deeply ingrained in daily life, yet this reverence sometimes stifles independent thinking and problem-solving abilities in challenging situations."

Part III: Addressing Urban Decay in Generation X and Z Neighbourhoods

"Transforming an abandoned supermarket into a communal hub could not only solve practical problems like car park encroachments but also enhance interpersonal relationships and community stability."

Exploring the transformation

My research delves into the dynamics between Generation Z and Generation X, with a particular focus on the transformation of communal spaces within residential areas. Originally, the community featured a small supermarket that functioned as a central hub where residents would briefly gather, facilitating social interaction and enhancing the community's vibrancy. However, the closure of this supermarket left a void, stripping the community of a vital gathering place and eroding its cultural fabric. In addressing this issue, a re-design and utilization plan for the abandoned supermarket space presents a promising solution. Transforming this area into a well-maintained park could alleviate problems like illegal parking and the lack of public resting areas, thereby enhancing community relations, stability, and overall happiness. Such spaces not only serve as physical rest stops but also as social catalysts that improve mobility and foster interpersonal connections among residents. However, the primary challenge in this community is not just the physical mismanagement of space but the indifference in social relationships and ineffective property management. The inaction of the property management has led to aging facilities, cars encroaching on pedestrian areas, and the misuse of communal parks for parking. These issues underscore a lack of effective governance and community engagement, where residents feel disconnected from communal problems and thus are reluctant to advocate for change. This disengagement hampers the ability of residents, including those from Generation Z and X, to unite and defend their rights, impacting their quality of life and safety within the community.
