My Design Philosophy

My design inspiration comes from plants, animals, the universe, and humans. I want to explore the connection between people themselves, nature, and the universe, so that people can better understand themselves.

Generational understanding

This is based on the situation of the increasing work pressure of young people, through the classification of different generations and understanding the behavioral habits of different generations, the elderly can be accompanied and the young can be relaxed. It is also a "bond" that connects the community together.

Slider image

The concept of bond

From the concept of bond, many elements are derived, including DNA strand structure, topology structure, knot structure, series structure. The elements are abstracted into the most basic geometric form and utilized. The elements are transformed from abstract to concrete.

The extension of elements

Through the extension of the elements on the element board, many interesting forms can be obtained, and different elements are "defined" according to the needs of different groups, and elements are reinterpreted from both abstract and concrete perspectives. The design method of modularization is obtained, the community planning method is obtained

Design development

In this part, the three-dimensional space to be used in the design is developed based on the elements obtained from the transformation of two-dimensional graphics, and the body is analyzed based on the structure and operation methods (topological structure, Boolean operation method, modularity) obtained in two-dimensional.

Final Design Proposal

This community is clearly next to the next community, but it is cut off by a wall. Therefore, my design target is to take this community as the divergence point, radiate the surrounding communities in a planned way, break the "walls" in the community (physical walls and walls in people's minds)

General Views

It is hoped that the design can change the gap between generations , and at the same time, it is hoped that the community can become a place full of children's laughter. And through the organic architectural form, rich space, break the cold appearance of modern architecture, and awaken people

Community Project - Participant’s Installation

Design Narrative

Students theme  The direction of design philosophy is to return.
Backtracking represents the process of recalling memories of oneself from the smells, materials, and other experiences experienced by the building itself. And the fields in front of the building also give people a feeling of returning to nature and the id. The use of human senses to guide people's emotions towards the natural id is triggered.

The main materials used are iron wire and reflective strip materials, which mainly use newspapers and reflective laser strips, as well as bells. This installation space is located above the public seats at the corner between the field and the building community. People don't spend much time here every day, and most of the time is busy working or doing things. The installation space can visually increase the space. When people are inside, they will also touch the materials, which will feel like slowing down. When they touch and the wind blows, there will be a sound, It can transform people from things in life to the natural scenery ahead.

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

My location is Yanwen Hutong, Yanzhao North Street, Zhengding County, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, China. The building I have chosen is located at the old heat exchange station in the north of the North Building of the Civil Affairs Bureau Family Courtyard. The entire community is located at the corner between the intersection and the field. The location of the building is in a relatively quiet environment, with narrow intersections and roads in the community. The field is about 0.8 meters lower than the flat ground where the building is located. The main problems in the community include safety hazards caused by narrow roads and low utilization of fields.

Part II: Site Representation

Narrative:

My location object is an old newspaper, which exists inside the old heat exchange station building. The old newspaper is glued to the wall with yellow tape. This object gives me a feeling of the past era, memories, information, transmission, and other feelings. Old newspapers carry the lifestyle of people from previous eras and serve as carriers for people to receive information. Newspapers are made from trees. It is obtained through various processes. During the experiment, I smelled many odors through the process of water bubbles and crushing, and I believe that odors can also become a way of memory.
Memory Smells can immediately bring people back to their memories and emotions. From this, I have summarized the impact of human senses on human psychology and emotions.

Honours Project

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: Generation Z- END

"The value system of Generation Z has become increasingly outcome-oriented, driven by the immediacy and transparency of information available in the digital age."

Navigating the Information Age

Generation Z is deeply influenced by technology, and the emergence of smart phones and the Internet has pushed these people into a large number of information fields. The transparency of information invisibly brings anxiety, sadness, and contemplation. This generation has neglected the ability of mobile phones and the Internet to communicate with others. The result oriented value system that emerged in the year Z has a wealth of transparent information. The emergence of this information cocoon brings immediacy and directness, which affects their values. Generation Z tends to have a stronger tendency towards outcomes. The use of newspapers represents people's sources of information. The shape of the flower represents the direct tendency of Generation Z towards fruiting. They tend to prefer direct results, with newspapers representing entities that go against the internet, and the overall color tone leaning towards the gray of the information age. They hope that people can see the hierarchy of information after seeing it, and explore the process while showcasing their individuality.

Part II: Baby boomer- Assemble

"The Baby Boomer generation in China is characterized by simplicity, diligence, and humility, deeply influenced by the tumultuous times of wars and the Cultural Revolution."

The values and lifestyles of China's Baby Boomers.

The baby boomer generation has experienced war, civil war, and cultural revolution, and their situation is chaotic, confused, and silent. The baby boomer generation is simple, hardworking, and diligent. The baby boomer generation is always willing to endure hardship in their lifestyle. The values of the baby boomer generation are influenced by social structure. During the Cultural Revolution, the personality traits of the baby boomer generation were influenced by the Cultural Revolution. The background of the work is a chaotic mass of material, expressing people's backgrounds. The bamboo skewers picked up represent the limitations of the era at that time. The rules and frameworks imposed by the social structure of that generation at that time. This fragmented framework represents the rules people encountered at that time, and the fragmented bars represent the values and behavioural norms formed by the influence on people.

Part III: Converge

"While both Generation Z and the Baby Boomers might pursue social identity within established norms, their different backgrounds lead to diverse behaviours, thoughts, and values, highlighted by the orderly yet staggered arrangement of bamboo strips."

Attitudes, values, and social identities of China's Generation Z and Baby Boomers.

China is a populous country with a long history. The backgrounds of each generation may vary greatly. The background of Generation Z and Baby Boomer leads to differences in people's living habits and attitudes. The thoughts and values of Generation Z and Baby Boomer are a state of individualism and collectivism. In the third work, the material of the first and second models is combined together. Bamboo slices. This represents the time constraints faced by the baby boomer generation in this regard, and the order of arrangement represents the rules of the generation and society. The interlocking height represents different values and the mutual influence between two generations. The space formed by intersecting materials represents the similarities and differences between two generations. I hope that people who see works can have good conversations with people from different eras, promoting communication and understanding between different eras.
