Generational understanding

This is based on the situation of the increasing work pressure of young people, through the classification of different generations and understanding the behavioral habits of different generations, the elderly can be accompanied and the young can be relaxed. It is also a "bond" that connects the community together.

Slider image

The concept of bond

From the concept of bond, many elements are derived, including DNA strand structure, topology structure, knot structure, series structure. The elements are abstracted into the most basic geometric form and utilized. The elements are transformed from abstract to concrete.

The extension of elements

Through the extension of the elements on the element board, many interesting forms can be obtained, and different elements are "defined" according to the needs of different groups, and elements are reinterpreted from both abstract and concrete perspectives. The design method of modularization is obtained, the community planning method is obtained

Design development

In this part, the three-dimensional space to be used in the design is developed based on the elements obtained from the transformation of two-dimensional graphics, and the body is analyzed based on the structure and operation methods (topological structure, Boolean operation method, modularity) obtained in two-dimensional.

Final Design Proposal

This community is clearly next to the next community, but it is cut off by a wall. Therefore, my design target is to take this community as the divergence point, radiate the surrounding communities in a planned way, break the "walls" in the community (physical walls and walls in people's minds)

General Views

It is hoped that the design can change the gap between generations , and at the same time, it is hoped that the community can become a place full of children's laughter. And through the organic architectural form, rich space, break the cold appearance of modern architecture, and awaken people

Community Project - Participant’s Installation

Design Narrative

Students theme  I hope to stimulate the vitality of the community, enhance the social attention of the elderly, and give them a sense of belonging and self-identity. Pay attention to the contributions and experiences of the elderly, and explore the relationship between the elderly and pets. Using pets as a medium can better bring people closer together, as they usually use pet care as a topic for communication and exchange of experience. Mobilize the surrounding population, such as kindergarten children, high school students, hospitals, etc., to participate and achieve sustainable social interaction in the community. They will also be interested in pets and have a demand for pet services, such as collaborating with hospitals to promote knowledge about pet hygiene and health.

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

I found through research that this community used to be a village, where many elderly people lived. In recent years, the government has carried out renovations on old residential areas, transforming originally densely populated small bungalows into buildings over ten floors high, and 60% of the residents are elderly. Their children usually work or go to school. During this period, I found that the community atmosphere was strong, the relationships between neighbors were harmonious, and they would bring pets to participate in social activities. However, I also found that the entertainment activities of elderly people with problems were limited.

They mostly gathered together to play cards or chess, and there were many elderly people engaging in social activities outside the room. The renovation of the old community only upgraded their living environment, but ignored the construction of community entertainment and leisure venues. According to my research, people usually place simple tables and chairs in community open spaces to gather and communicate, or in the garden of the outdoor park across from the community, paying attention to the need for a comfortable community communication center for the elderly. From the psychological perspective of the elderly, as they grow older, their social circle gradually narrows, and their children may not be able to accompany them frequently due to work and other reasons, which can make them feel lonely and helpless. So it is necessary to establish social networks for the elderly. They need to communicate and interact with others, enhance their social circle, and society can provide some social activities and platforms, allowing them to make new friends and expand their social network.

When the river dries up, social issues such as flood control and water resource utilization are lost. If extreme weather occurs, the city's functions will be lacking, and timely management and optimization of waterways are needed

Part II: Site Representation

Narrative:

Firstly, I hope to solve the problem of most residents not having public social spaces. I believe that the leaky long corridor is only for temporary rest and cannot meet the needs of residents. Moreover, many community social spaces are located in public fitness equipment areas, which not only lack comfortable tables and chairs, but also hinder normal fitness and exercise. If there is no indoor space for daily leisure and entertainment, residents will have to stay at home in rainy and snowy weather. Secondly, it aims to address the social problem of a lack of children's companionship among the general population and the use of pets as emotional support. I think doing some parent-child relationship activities is one of them, and the most important thing is that communication between elderly people and their peers or with the outside world is the focus.

Building a pet service centre from the perspective of an aging-friendly community can enhance communication among the elderly, attract outsiders, inject new vitality into the community, and encourage the elderly to keep up with the times and enrich their daily lives to obtain more social opportunities. Finally, it is necessary to equip them with complete anti-ageing facilities, such as installing anti-skid facilities, setting up firefighting equipment, emergency call systems, and emergency medication backup, which can provide a safer and more comfortable environment for the elderly and ensure their effective safety protection.

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: Genz - the pressure

'...Generation Z mainly has only children, so the focus of the family is on them, which leads to increasing pressure...".'

Fragmented

The more you go online, the more anxious you become. The social background is that Generation Z mainly has only children, so the focus of the family is on them, which leads to increasing pressure due to too much attention. And they are the main force of the internet, expressing themselves, socializing, or sharing life online, which also leads to some problems: the divergence between virtual and real identities; Fragmented information overload; The authenticity of information affects judgment; May lead to disconnection from society. The green cloth at the bottom of the collage symbolizes the virtual network, which is ethereal and colourful.

The colourful surface implies that people are not so practical. The red line entangled points mean the relationship network and information ties generated by people's communication on the Internet.

Part II:  Self-moving Education

'....Under these self-motivated education, parents often have the problem of limited personal time, forced love .'

Forced love

"Self-moving Education" for Generation X Parents. Due to different eras of growth, people's thoughts also vary greatly. Under these self-motivated education, parents often have the problem of limited personal time, forced love regardless of whether their children like it or not, and sacrifice their own values, leading to problems in family relationships. Children are often suffocated. The reason for attribution is the difference in values between parents and children, as well as the inheritance of traditional education methods from elders.

The cage in the collage symbolizes the invisible shackles of being trapped by parents. Although the door is not locked, it is bound by so-called love. The cross inside is like the physical and mental exhaustion of children who are tormented, while the outside is free, but there are invisible shackles.

Part III: Family Planning

'....they can have more access to the Internet and grow up with the explosion of Internet content '

Generation Z and Generation X

There are many reasons for the lack of communication between Generation Z and Generation X, among which there is a significant difference in their growth environment. From 2002 to 2009, Generation Z caught up with family planning. According to birth population calculations, there were approximately 163 million people born in the 2000s, which is 48 million fewer than those born in the 1990s. Therefore, the only-child family structure is commonly referred to as the "4+2+1" family structure. They enjoy the care of family members and have better material conditions. The outstanding feature is that 85.79% of the children born in Generation Z have mobile phones. They can have more access to the Internet and grow up with the explosion of Internet content. Many social platforms have emerged during this period.
In contrast, Gen X people have more brothers and sisters and enjoy care and living conditions that are incomparable with Gen Parents and children do not have the same experiences and have little common speech, so they do not understand each other. For example, when using a mobile phone, the two ideas are vastly different. Children treat their phones as emotional sustenance and spend most of their day using them, relying more on them to connect with friends. And parents using their phones as a tool is emotionless.
