My Design Philosophy

I draw inspiration from life and current news. Things, people and scenery around me may inspire me, pay attention to the details, changes and beauty in life and get inspiration from them. Reading a variety of books, articles, and materials to learn new knowledge and ideas can expand my horizons and trigger new thoughts and inspiration.

Generational understanding

This is based on the situation of the increasing work pressure of young people, through the classification of different generations and understanding the behavioral habits of different generations, the elderly can be accompanied and the young can be relaxed. It is also a "bond" that connects the community together.

Slider image

The concept of bond

From the concept of bond, many elements are derived, including DNA strand structure, topology structure, knot structure, series structure. The elements are abstracted into the most basic geometric form and utilized. The elements are transformed from abstract to concrete.

The extension of elements

Through the extension of the elements on the element board, many interesting forms can be obtained, and different elements are "defined" according to the needs of different groups, and elements are reinterpreted from both abstract and concrete perspectives. The design method of modularization is obtained, the community planning method is obtained

Design development

In this part, the three-dimensional space to be used in the design is developed based on the elements obtained from the transformation of two-dimensional graphics, and the body is analyzed based on the structure and operation methods (topological structure, Boolean operation method, modularity) obtained in two-dimensional.

Final Design Proposal

This community is clearly next to the next community, but it is cut off by a wall. Therefore, my design target is to take this community as the divergence point, radiate the surrounding communities in a planned way, break the "walls" in the community (physical walls and walls in people's minds)

General Views

It is hoped that the design can change the gap between generations , and at the same time, it is hoped that the community can become a place full of children's laughter. And through the organic architectural form, rich space, break the cold appearance of modern architecture, and awaken people

Design Narrative

Problem discovered Children spend more time with the elderly and less time communicating with their parents. Since there are differences in the way the elderly and the parents treat their children, it is likely that the children will not get used to the way they are used to the elderly and will not be able to deal with the parents again, and family conflicts will arise as a result. Parents are busy at work and tend to neglect communication with their children, resulting in less communication. With children's heavy study load and limited time, it is difficult for both parties to spare enough time for communication. With modern technology, family members are likely to be immersed in electronic devices such as mobile phones and computers, and communication becomes interrupted and distracted, affecting face-to-face communication. There is a generation gap between parents and children, with large differences in concepts and values, making it difficult to find common ground and understanding, and there are differences in communication methods and styles, making it difficult for both parties to listen, understand and express themselves effectively. The research question is the absence of parents in the child's development. Parents may have to work long hours for their financial life and family responsibilities, resulting in not being able to spend enough time with their children. Or they may have different career plans and life priorities, resulting in an inability to give their children sufficient attention and support. Some parents may over-emphasize academic achievements and material needs while neglecting their children's emotional needs and psychological growth. Due to the development of modern technology, parents may be over-indulged in mobile phones, computers and other electronic devices, reducing the time for face-to-face communication with their children, which affects the establishment of parent-child relationship. In terms of education parents may have differences in approach, resulting in inconsistent attitudes towards their children, who feel confused and stressed. At the same time, parents may lack effective communication skills and find it difficult to listen to their children's needs and emotions, resulting in a lack of understanding and trust with their children. In addition, the relationship between parents in a family will also have an impact on a child's development. A harmonious family can provide a stable, warm, supportive and loving environment for the child, which contributes to the child's physical and mental health, self-confidence and emotional development. In a harmonious family, the harmonious relationship between parents, the deep emotion and close communication between parents and children can cultivate a positive and optimistic attitude towards life and social skills, help children build healthy interpersonal relationships, enhance their adaptability, and promote their academic and career development.
On the contrary, parental tension and frequent outbreaks of quarrels also play a negative role in children's development. Children may imitate their parents' conflict behaviors and display undesirable behaviors such as challenging authority, aggressiveness and avoidance. In addition, being affected by parental quarrels and conflicts may also have an impact on children's mental health problems such as worry, anxiety and depression, affecting their emotional stability and mental health. Children may lack a sense of security and trust in an environment of parental tension, affecting their ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with others. Prolonged parental quarrels and conflicts may cause children to develop negative emotions such as self-blame and low self-esteem, thus undermining their self-esteem and self-confidence. I summed up 24 common family atmospheres and made labels to be fixed on the wall with nails. Black, red and white coloured threads can be used to represent the parents' attitude towards themselves, the family atmosphere they live in, and their own attitudes towards their parents, and the user can choose key words to link them together according to the threads. Friction is inevitable in life, and it is hoped that this device can be used to explore more about everyone's family of origin and the kind of conflicts that can arise in getting along with family members.

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

Hebei Baoding Baoshuo Group This place is free to be transformed and opened up, bringing services and convenience to the surrounding amenities and community. Originally used as a staff office for the group, it was later leased by a driving school as a practice area, but it is now abandoned. There are staff dormitories on the north and south sides of the site, and Baoding No. 1 Middle School is opposite the group.
Limitations: The house was built a long time ago and is too old, it has been vacant for a long time and the walls will be damaged because of the environment, and after entering through the entrance of the group, you still need to walk some distance to get here. Simple structure, poor shock resistance. But The interiors are square, four in total, with shared walls that can be opened up, and the outdoor area has a large space.

Part II: Site Representation

Narrative:

A Humulus that grows tangled along the walls and window frames. I saw that even in the abandoned and barren environment can still insist on upward growth, the power to grow towards the sun, it defied the difficulties and obstacles, with the power of life to bring me touched.

The surface of the stem of Humulus lupulus is adorned with a number of imperceptible and very fine barbs, which can only be felt when touched. Very resilient, the fibres in the stem are compact and tough, hard to break, can withstand a lot of tension, and wear-resistant to external erosion and abrasion. Humulus lupulus is difficult to break because of its tight fibres. The stem is like a home, and the fibres inside are like the members of the family, which are difficult to break because there are grandparents, parents and children, each of whom is very important.
My experimental subjects were vines, firstly I chose the method of compilation to test the pliability, secondly, I chose my subjects and other varieties of plants near the building to do a burn test, and finally, their ash was added when firing the pottery to create different textures.

Honours Project

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: Enjoy the moment Generation Z

"Generation Z has a firm reliance on and use of technology and social media."

Societal engagement of Generation Z

Growing up in the highly digitalized information age, Generation Z has a firm reliance on and use of technology and social media. They are skilled in using the Internet and can learn about news from the other side of the world through a small screen.
Created a screen header and chose a colourful city as the background to symbolize the current era. Inside, I used glitter to fill in the quicksand, which slides downwards as if technological data is sliding by when it is erected. A large eye was pasted to look into the world, constantly absorbing outside knowledge. The four leaves of the four-leaf clover on the body represent hope, confidence, love, and luck, and the Z-era is the generation booming now and the hope for the future.

Part II: Baby Boomers from the Unrests

"China's Baby Boomers have shown remarkable resilience and a steadfast will to overcome difficulties, their legacy inspiring subsequent generations to continue striving for a cohesive and improved society."

Resilience of China's Baby Boomer generation

The Baby Boomers are people boom between the 1950s and 1970s, a generation that went through turbulent times in China, They have experienced various historical events, such as war, famine, reform, and opening up, and they have come from war.

The language of the daisy is cheerfulness, happiness, peace, and hope, and the gesture of holding up the flower is a Chinese Buddhist practice that means to stop evil and avoid misfortune, to eliminate disasters and difficulties, and to enjoy peace and happiness. The burnt paper and bloodstained bandages in the lower layer symbolize the war, and the small rose represents not only love but also youth and hope, with a positive symbolism. The hand breaks away from the war below and holds hope, expressing this generation's cherishing and longing for peace.

Part III: History Unites Two Generations

".....both China's Generation Z and Baby Boomers lived during a period of rapid economic development and frequent social change in China.'

Unveiling the shared values and influences

Though born far apart, both China's Generation Z and Baby Boomers lived during a period of rapid economic development and frequent social change in China. I tried to use paper to express the spirituality of the feathers, black and white feathers instead of Baby Boomers and Generation Z respectively.
The black feather is traditionally seen as a symbol of protection and strength. It symbolizes resilience and the strength to stand strong in the face of adversity. In many cultures, the black feather is often thought of as a guardian, a shield against negative energy, and a guide through the darker side of the journey. Just like the baby boomers, who walked through the toughest years for us.
White feathers have long been associated with purity and hope. It gives a sense of. Calm. In many cultures, the white feather is often used as a symbol of hope, dreams, and inspiration.
Together, the black and white feathers form a visual and symbolic fusion of yin and yang, testifying to the universal balance of light and shadow, hardship and ease, matter and spirit
