My Design Philosophy

My design inspiration comes from life, or from seeing things that have left a deep impression on me in the past, such as creatures in nature, reading books, and accumulating some artistic materials.

Generational understanding

This is based on the situation of the increasing work pressure of young people, through the classification of different generations and understanding the behavioral habits of different generations, the elderly can be accompanied and the young can be relaxed. It is also a "bond" that connects the community together.

Slider image

The concept of bond

From the concept of bond, many elements are derived, including DNA strand structure, topology structure, knot structure, series structure. The elements are abstracted into the most basic geometric form and utilized. The elements are transformed from abstract to concrete.

The extension of elements

Through the extension of the elements on the element board, many interesting forms can be obtained, and different elements are "defined" according to the needs of different groups, and elements are reinterpreted from both abstract and concrete perspectives. The design method of modularization is obtained, the community planning method is obtained

Design development

In this part, the three-dimensional space to be used in the design is developed based on the elements obtained from the transformation of two-dimensional graphics, and the body is analyzed based on the structure and operation methods (topological structure, Boolean operation method, modularity) obtained in two-dimensional.

Final Design Proposal

This community is clearly next to the next community, but it is cut off by a wall. Therefore, my design target is to take this community as the divergence point, radiate the surrounding communities in a planned way, break the "walls" in the community (physical walls and walls in people's minds)

General Views

It is hoped that the design can change the gap between generations , and at the same time, it is hoped that the community can become a place full of children's laughter. And through the organic architectural form, rich space, break the cold appearance of modern architecture, and awaken people

Design Narrative

Students theme  The design concept is " combine ", conveying the feeling of mutual communication through styling, guiding people to unite and work together to build a perfect and harmonious community, and using the characteristics of moss to gather and discuss together.
Design inspiration source: According to the characteristics of moss, it is composed of protruding circular shapes, which can be used to showcase the different functions of buildings through modular design and irregular building shapes. Expressing in terms of parts and the whole, each part has a different function, but when combined, it becomes a whole.
The main colour is green, using the colour of moss. Different shades of green in the same colour system represent the people in the community. Each family is a whole, and when combined, they form a community. The shape is opposite in nature, and the shape that extends out from around represents the people in the community. People come together and merge into a whole to govern the community, just like water flows merging together to form a lake. People in the community unite to govern and build together, and establish a community that satisfies people.
The entire device is like a large blanket, scattered with some fine moss blocks around the main body, and the main body lacks some moss blocks. People can move the surrounding moss blocks and assemble them onto the main body to form a complete shape. There are also scattered lines around, and people can use different techniques to weave new parts, making the whole more complete.

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

The site is located in Xinxin Home Community, Qiaoxi District, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. The community is situated in the old urban area of the city, and many communities consist of relocation buildings due to the renovation of the old urban area. Being an old urban area, the surrounding vicinity of the community is well-equipped. The site is situated to the north of Building 7, with other communities to the north and an approximately 400 square meters open space to the west of the site. Most of the buildings in the community are resettlement buildings, with only one being a commercial building. 85% of the population in the community are elderly people aged 60-70, while the remaining residents are middle-aged individuals and children aged 30-40.

Part II: Site Representation

Narrative:

I chose moss because it grew on the canopy of the gate. It was a coincidence that I saw it. After I came out of the gate, I accidentally looked up and saw it. The feeling at that time was novel, but unexpectedly, it was unconventional. It is completely opposite to the entire building, which is old and dilapidated, while it is brand new and complete.
The growth of moss will form protruding circular communities, which will appear like steamed bread. The moss is closely connected and layered, which can be transformed into elements of architectural appearance design. In terms of color selection, the color of the white haired moss itself can be used. The drier the white haired moss, the whiter it appears, with a greyish white surface and a green bottom.

Honours Project

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: The social "outlet" of Generation Z

"Two-dimensional culture resonates deeply with Generation Z, evolving from a simple interest to a significant cultural force that shapes their values and daily habits."

Pivotal element of identity

When it comes to Generation Z, it must be inseparable from the "two-dimensional culture". Born in Generation Z between 1995 and 2009, the impact of family planning has led to the majority of only children, who have experienced a lot of loneliness in their growth. Generation Z is eager to rely on online channels to seek identity.
At this time, "two-dimensional culture" appears in their lives. The "anime culture" is like a window for them to socialize. In this work, the "anime culture" serves as a window through which Gen Z who like the "anime culture" can see another colorful world. In this dream world, you can find like-minded friends, find spiritual sustenance, and also find true and pure emotions that are different from reality. Each star is equivalent to those beautiful moments in the anime world, and countless beautiful moments outline a colorful anime world.

Part II: The Marriage Concept of Baby Boomers

"The Marriage Law of 1950 in China reshaped societal perceptions, advocating for gender equality and altering the traditional views of marriage held by the Baby Boomer generation."

Examining the shift

The baby boomer view of marriage is that marriage is a lifelong thing, and divorce is a shameful thing for them, which can lead to discrimination and discrimination in society. The reactions in society can influence their thoughts and decisions. In that era, the family was an important component of society, and society also influenced the composition of the family.
In this work, each line of different colors is equivalent to a person, and people intertwine to form a family. As more and more families gather at the center, they form a society. In the baby boomer generation, there are both beautiful marriages and failed marriages, and those unhappy marriages are bound by personal family and social constraints. People and families form society, and society also influences the social views of people and families, which intertwined to form the social views of the baby boomer era.

Part III: The changes of time

"Both generations are gradually adapting and integrating into the contemporary era, learning to follow the development of the times together, despite their differing worldviews shaped by distinct social backgrounds."

Values of China's Baby Boomers and Generation Z

The social views of the baby boomer generation are completely mismatched in modern society, and the impact of the 21st century on the baby boomer is very significant. The rapid progress of the Z era can be well integrated with the rapid development of society, but the baby boom may not keep up with the changes and developments of the times, which has a great impact on the spiritual world of the baby boom. In this work, Generation Z and Baby Boomer are distributed between the two segments of the screen, as if there is a huge gap between them.

In different generations, there are differences in social background and values, which lead to generation gaps and barriers between two generations. In the rapidly developing world, baby boomers will gradually accept more things, Generation Z will gradually understand more ideas, and I believe the gap between the two generations will gradually become less and less.
