My Design Philosophy

My passion for design comes from finding beauty in life. All beautiful and incredible things can be my inspiration. At the same time, I am also keen to design works that have practical service functions for human beings. Completing such assignments makes me happy and satisfied.

Final Design Scheme

Virtual V

Moodboard Center is composed of concrete and wooden structures, representing the preservation of traditional style. The overall style is dominated by neon lights, and the lower left corner device represents a sense of future and technology. The materials have these elements: neon light strip, steel products, sapphire crystal, wooden structure, concrete structure, black granular rubber. "Virtual" means both real and virtual. Virtual technology also represents a sense of uncertainty about the future. The real thing is traditional architecture with existing elements. "V" is my personal code name and also represents the second layer, "Virtual". The whole brand logo represents how to add virtual technology to a sense of the future based on existing actual traditional architecture.

Final Design Proposal

Street installations set off the environment, and the performing arts communities achieve sustainable communities. The dragon pattern is transformed into a modern-style pattern in the face of rain, while also conveying the tradition of the neighbourhood.

General Views

The display desk showcases culture, while the rear reception area uses space to receive customers. The passage leads directly to the elevator door. The book centre provides tourists with knowledge, the display area offers tourists images and sculptures, the map area guides tourists, and the bathroom makes reasonable use of space. The vertical space on the roof combines climate plants with vegetables.

Design Narrative

My design theme is rhythm. Rhythm is present in the visual composition of architecture, as well as in its structure and function. The structural rhythm allows users to experience transitions and changes, evoking different emotions in different areas. The functional rhythm enables users to engage in various activities, interacting with the space and deriving different psychological and physical enjoyments. The interactive device in my design also embodies rhythm. Upon entering the area, visitors will visually perceive the undulating movements of three overlapping devices in the east and west directions, experiencing the sense of rhythm and its fluctuations. In terms of interaction with people, tourists can order songs by paying for each song. This arrangement ensures that everyone can enjoy the music without being overwhelmed by the large number of tourists. Additionally, a camera is placed in the centre of the area, providing a paid service for individuals who wish to capture their journey. Users can connect to the second device and transfer their photos to it. They can then edit, doodle, and enhance the pictures, resulting in a perfect image. The colour purple, known for its vibrancy and liveliness, is reminiscent of music and rhythm. It aligns with the cyberpunk style that will be integrated into my street design later on.

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

My site is located in a house on Ximen Street, Linhai City, Taizhou, Zhejiang. This place has a long history and is an ancient cultural street. The climate here is mild, with abundant precipitation and adequate sunlight. It is cold in winter and hot in summer. The history here dates back to the Qing Dynasty, so the area has a strong ancient cultural atmosphere, including architecture, humanities, life, and functions. My site is one of the residential buildings in the area. Many traditional buildings are preserved on the street, and there are abundant wooden material resources due to the local rainfall. Usually, there are many tourists, especially during holidays. However, with the passage of time, the internal functions and appearance of the streets in the local area have gradually become disconnected from the outside world. Modern technological means and reasonable renovations are needed to restore the vitality of this street. This section explains the location and historical significance of my site on Ximen Street, Linhai City, which is an ancient cultural street with potential for renovation and revitalisation.

Part II: Site Representation

There are many buildings that are difficult to add or reduce. But most buildings are made of wooden structures, making them easy to rebuild and plan internally. Ceramic tiles are also a very rich resource, and the space on the roof needs to be utilized. My object is a cornice wall, which has the function of fire prevention and decoration, representing a certain traditional culture. The cornice wall is composed of ceramic tiles and cement, both of which are fire-resistant but prone to producing traces in the presence of water. To prevent marks on the wall during rains, hydrophobic materials can be painted. When it rains, patterns are produced, allowing people to understand the local culture. The cornice wall can serve as a scientific outpost to control the overall situation of the street. Cameras can be assembled to observe trends, collect data, and send it back. Both wood and soil will be affected by water, but the soil will become loose immediately after being watered, causing it to become sticky. The wood will become soft and absorb a small amount of water, making both difficult to dry, especially the soil. In contrast, iron and tiles are not easily affected by water. After being watered, iron will leave a few traces, and tiles will leave obvious traces. Both are easy to dry.

Honours Project

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: Generation Z and Self Identification

'Generation Z people will accept more diverse cultures, it is convenient to obtain other countries' cultures on Internet. They will be more lack of practical skills, lack real communication with people...'

Generation Z and inclusiveness

Generation z usually refers to the generation born after 1996, that is, the children of Generation X who were born from the mid-1960s to the late 1970s. Generation Z has become a registered user on the Internet before they were born. They often toddler with electronic toys in their hands. Generation Z is more concerned about "experience" and thriftier at the same time: they try to tap the best value and service. The influence of generation Z teenagers on their parents' consumption is far greater than that of Millennials. They have a higher cost of living, and their preferences can significantly affect family purchase decisions. In economy and culture, generation Z people will accept more diverse cultures, it is convenient to obtain other countries' cultures on Internet. They will be more lack of practical skills, lack real communication with people, and do not have much independent cultural ideas of their own country. For personal expression, I will define part of myself with some fashionable consumption to express my personality. This may not be Bad. We can advocate personal expression and actively refuse it for our interests.

Part II:  Pre-generation Z and Self Identification

'generation is also very independent. My parents or grandparents are self-reliant and energetic. It is not like the young people today, who are vulnerable to mental illness.'

A generation of independence

When the world accelerated the process of history due to major events such as world war, it develops rapidly. Network communication also has a beginning here. After war, the population increased sharply, forming a "baby boom" situation. Generation X is the baby boomer generation. After the Great Depression after the war, couples began to have many children, and most people got married after the Declaration of Peace, both of which contributed to a sharp rise in the birth rate. After a few years, the economy slowly recovered, and the soldiers who left home gradually returned home. The children were born. The baby boom officially started. . Generation X is this generation of baby boomers. God had long been defeated by the artillery of war. The Renaissance and other ideological liberation movements have also been carried out for a long time, and people's minds are no longer superstitious and believe. This generation is also very independent. My parents or grandparents are self-reliant and energetic. It is not like the young people today, who are vulnerable to mental illness.

Part III: Generations and Community

'. Such a huge network world has impacted the life of Generation Z, As a result, their hearts are gradually occupied by the Internet. Under such a background every day, the mind is also affected by the network.'

Communication between the generations

Through the research on generation x, y and z, I have preliminarily recognized some problems. These generations, even a little time ago, are all run through by the clue of network. The clue of network has been developing on the timeline since ancient times, and has been developing rapidly in Generation Y, especially Generation Z. The common network generation makes these generations have the shadow of the network. However, due to the high-density development of the network, The proportion of the network that Gen Z people have access to is almost huge. Such a huge network world has impacted the life of Generation Z, As a result, their hearts are gradually occupied by the Internet. Under such a background every day, the mind is also affected by the network.  With the development of the network and society, we cannot change it or hinder its development, because it will also block the economic and social development. Therefore, from the side, a suitable and imperceptible means is very important. This means is called social psychological intervention.
