Generational understanding

This is based on the situation of the increasing work pressure of young people, through the classification of different generations and understanding the behavioral habits of different generations, the elderly can be accompanied and the young can be relaxed. It is also a "bond" that connects the community together.

Slider image

The concept of bond

From the concept of bond, many elements are derived, including DNA strand structure, topology structure, knot structure, series structure. The elements are abstracted into the most basic geometric form and utilized. The elements are transformed from abstract to concrete.

The extension of elements

Through the extension of the elements on the element board, many interesting forms can be obtained, and different elements are "defined" according to the needs of different groups, and elements are reinterpreted from both abstract and concrete perspectives. The design method of modularization is obtained, the community planning method is obtained

Design development

In this part, the three-dimensional space to be used in the design is developed based on the elements obtained from the transformation of two-dimensional graphics, and the body is analyzed based on the structure and operation methods (topological structure, Boolean operation method, modularity) obtained in two-dimensional.

Final Design Proposal

This community is clearly next to the next community, but it is cut off by a wall. Therefore, my design target is to take this community as the divergence point, radiate the surrounding communities in a planned way, break the "walls" in the community (physical walls and walls in people's minds)

General Views

It is hoped that the design can change the gap between generations , and at the same time, it is hoped that the community can become a place full of children's laughter. And through the organic architectural form, rich space, break the cold appearance of modern architecture, and awaken people

Design Narrative

The design concept of future life is "cohesion." I believe that cohesion represents the process of a group moving from one level to another through mutual assistance. College students learn and progress from each other, and together move towards society. This is a process of self-development. Without cohesion, there can be no team. In the process of entrepreneurship, an efficient and tacit team is indispensable. According to the characteristics of the Z era population, they often like to challenge new things and hope to enhance their social value in the process of realizing self-worth. It is precisely because of this that entrepreneurship, as a new trend of the era, attracts many college students.

Due to the difficulties in entrepreneurship caused by the epidemic, many community students lack enthusiasm and the courage and experience to practice. By extracting the meaning and elements of the object, we aim to create a platform that allows students with entrepreneurial intentions to find like-minded partners. By incorporating interactive design concepts, we can quickly break the ice between entrepreneurial students in universities, enabling them to select suitable partners through communication and incorporating interactive design techniques into the communication space. This platform is easy to implement, practical, and maximizes the utilization of space. Space can be divided into online virtual space and offline actual space (for introverted college students, online communication can be used to filter out chat objects and then meet offline), open space layout and relatively private space layout (team communication space and personal space).

Honours Project - Site Research and Representation

Part I: Research and Analysis

social concern
In the context of the post pandemic, community entrepreneurship spaces have neglected to cultivate the entrepreneurial enthusiasm of college students.
Explain
: The site is located in Daxue City Community, Qiyi East Road, Lianchi District, Baoding City, Hebei Province, China. 40% of the residents in this community are students who attend nearby universities, 20% are accompanying parents, 20% are hotel migrants, and the remaining 20% are indigenous people in the community. Due to choosing a college student entrepreneurship base nearby, it was found that the base only provides entrepreneurship training for college students and did not fundamentally pay attention to the difficulties of college students in entrepreneurship caused by the epidemic, resulting in the problem of college students having only entrepreneurial enthusiasm but not daring to practice. Background: During the epidemic, university closures have led to a lack of face-to-face communication between college students and mentors regarding entrepreneurship, resulting in a disconnect between entrepreneurship education in universities and actual entrepreneurship, and a lack of systematicity. I want to address the domestic demand for entrepreneurial psychology among college students in the community, in order to promote sustainable development of the community and its surrounding areas. The site is located in Daxue City Community, Qiyi East Road, Lianchi District, Baoding City, Hebei Province, and is situated in the northeast corner of the community. The location is backed by the new campus of Hebei University, with Baoding College and Baoding Foreign Language College to the south of the community. 1. Improve space utilization, enhance the interaction between space and entrepreneurial students, and effectively utilize surrounding resources
2. By addressing the internal needs of community entrepreneurship students, attracting and driving surrounding community entrepreneurship students, enhancing community cohesion, and achieving sustainable development
3.Optimize the community maker space system and effectively improve the current situation of difficult entrepreneurship

Part II: Site Representation

Narrative:

There is a college student entrepreneurship base within the community, but it only provides entrepreneurship courses and guidance for college students, without fundamentally solving the psychological problems of college students in entrepreneurship (college students are afraid of entrepreneurship failure, lack of entrepreneurial experience, and lack of communication). By establishing a communication space for college students in entrepreneurship, it can provide a platform for discussion among college students, thereby improving their lack of confidence in entrepreneurship, Enhance the entrepreneurial enthusiasm of college students within the community and solve problems for college students who want to start their own businesses. In addition, the residents of the surrounding communities are mainly college students, who usually rent houses and do not stay in the community for long. However, establishing this college student entrepreneurship platform can continuously attract college students from the surrounding communities to participate, injecting new blood into the community and achieving sustainable development.
In the current post pandemic context, it is difficult for college students as individuals to quickly integrate into society for entrepreneurship. In addition, the government provides support for college student entrepreneurship, and inviting more students to participate in entrepreneurship can receive government funding. So it is necessary to design a communication space that facilitates the exchange of entrepreneurial experiences between college students, complementing the surrounding college student entrepreneurship bases. College students can start their own businesses like the mold on the wall, by communicating and helping each other.
My item choice is the mold on the wallpaper. Due to a long time of no one cleaning it, the wallpaper has long been worn out, but the mold on the wallpaper always has vitality and cohesion. Even on damaged wallpaper, they still show tenacious vitality, constantly spreading around until they cover the entire wall. The subjective feeling that mold gives me is like a group of people, just like college students who have just entered society. When facing the entrepreneurial environment, they need to huddle together like mold, reflecting their cohesion, in order to support and promote each other in the entrepreneurial process. Grow through mutual communication.

Theoretical Underpinning

Part I: Gen Z - Gen Z's Cultural Expressions on Social Media

'...The inheritance of traditional culture usually relies on methods such as oral transmission and written records, while The inheritance of traditional culture usually relies on methods such as oral transmission and written records, while digital social media injects new elements into cultural inheritance. Injects new elements into cultural inheritance. ".'

New elements into cultural inheritance.

The digital age has witnessed the rise of an emerging generation - Generation Z, those born between 1995 and 2010. As a university student, I have experienced first-hand the importance of social media in my generation and its far-reaching impact on our cultural expressions. The rise of digital social media marks a new chapter in social media in the information age. People have shifted from passive reception of traditional media to active participants, and social media has become a platform to connect the world and shape culture. Digital social media platforms such as Facebook have become a stage for cultural expression. Users can present the characteristics of their own culture and showcase their unique cultural taste through posting status, photos, videos, and other forms.
The inheritance of traditional culture usually relies on methods such as oral transmission and written records, while digital social media injects new elements into cultural inheritance. People can share and disseminate their cultural perspectives and lifestyles through platforms, forming a diverse cultural integration.
My collage draws inspiration from the form of explosive clouds, vividly reflecting the flourishing development of Generation Z's thinking. The shape of explosive clouds also represents tension and vitality. The black and white colour tone is a color commonly favoured by Generation Z, representing a simple yet meaningful and mysterious colour. I made this collage using a small light bulb paired with cotton, representing the development and vitality of Generation Z's ideas. The new ideas of Generation Z shine like the stars in the Milky Way.

Part II: Changes in Family Structure Among Baby Boomers

'....In the face of changes in family structure, baby boomers need to adapt to new family roles and social expectations..'

In the face of change

In China, the baby boomer generation (those born between the 1950s and 1960s) is currently at the centre of changes in society's family structure. As this generation ages, their family life has changed significantly, which has not only affected them but also had a profound impact on the family structure of society as a whole. As a university student, I have developed a keen interest in the reasons behind this phenomenon and its impact on individuals and society.
The family structure of the baby boomers has undergone significant changes. There has been a gradual shift from the traditional extended family structure to the nuclear family. Most of this generation experienced the one-child policy, and their limited number of children led to a reduction in family size, while at the same time, relationships among family members became closer.
My collage uses broken glass, toothpicks, mesh cloth, and paint. Broken glass represents the inner emotions that need attention during the baby boom era. As the elderly generation, their inner needs are actually very rich. Countless inner needs are pieced together to form the middle part of my collage, which is a colourful butterfly made of glass. Unlike Generation Z collages, I only used glass in various colors for this collage because the life experiences of the baby boomer era were actually very rich, and correspondingly, they needed more attention.

I used toothpicks to build a three-dimensional framework, representing the changes in the family structure of the baby boomer era. The combination of red materials and toothpicks formed a sharp shape, representing the urgent needs of the baby boomer generation. It also encourages young people to pay more attention to the inner thoughts of the elderly, understand and accept their ideas, and solve their psychological needs.

Part III: A Comparative Study: Psychosocial Characteristics of Generation Z and China’s Baby Boomers

'As society continues to progress, understanding and adapting to these changes is crucial to building a more harmonious and inclusive society.'

Adhering to openness and inclusiveness

In exploring the psychosocial characteristics of Generation Z and China's Baby Boomers, we note that the two groups face different challenges and social environments; Generation Z is heavily influenced by digitalisation, while Baby Boomers are experiencing significant changes in family structure.
By comparing the psychosocial characteristics of Generation Z and China's Baby Boomers, we can see that the two groups face different challenges; Generation Z needs to find balance in the digital world, while Baby Boomers need to adapt to changes in family structure and related social pressures. These findings are critical to developing effective social intervention strategies. By understanding the unique needs of each group, we can support them more effectively and promote the overall well-being of society.
Overall, this comparative study not only reveals the psychosocial characteristics and needs of different generations but also provides us with important references for future social intervention work. As society continues to progress, understanding and adapting to these changes is crucial to building a more harmonious and inclusive society. Openness and inclusiveness are necessary for social progress. The development of society requires the collision and exchange of various ideas and talents. Only by adhering to openness and inclusiveness can various ideas be disseminated and talents be unleashed, thereby promoting social progress and development.
The fusion of water and fire in my collage design represents the impact of ideological differences between Generation Z and Baby Boomers. I just used cardboard and paint. Some of the cardboard is flame-shaped, representing the thriving vitality of Generation Z, while the other side is water wave-shaped, representing the inclusiveness of the baby boomer generation.
