The Brief

Last update: 11.04.2023

What is a brief?

A design brief is a document that outlines the goals, requirements, and expectations for a design project. It typically includes information about the client, the target audience, the project's purpose, the scope of work, the budget, and the timeline. The design brief serves as a roadmap for designers and other stakeholders involved in the project, helping to ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals. It also provides a clear understanding of what the client wants and needs, and helps designers to create a solution that meets those requirements. A well-crafted design brief is crucial to the success of a design project, as it helps to minimize misunderstandings, reduce delays, and increase the likelihood of achieving the desired outcomes. This section is designed to highlight the final years briefs, to help you gain a better understanding of their project and the structure of the final year briefs

Site Analysis

"Site" is the report that thoroughly explains the student's project site. The students are tasked with understanding their site quantitatively - understanding the measurements of the site, the surrounding location, weather, traffic analysis, etc. These details help the student understand design constraints that may occur due to these findings. The outcome of this brief will include a set of accurate site drawings and complete quantified site analysis, including site model and object experimentation, all presented on a range of boards and in presented books.

Future Life

Future Life: "Future Life" deals with the student's understanding of the area and creating a sustainable community. All these sites were abandoned for a reason, so it is imperative to understand why and what new function for the site will best fit the surrounding community. This exploration results in a building that is dictated by the community surrounding and eventually using it. This will be presented in a physical book, including site analysis.

DD3000

"DD3000 – Culture and Society Studies" gets the students to focus on understanding the cultural differences in a range of generations through analysis of technological, social, and lifestyle differences. These essays are structured to allow the students to draw their own conclusions to their gathered research and represent this work in a sculptural piece.

Honours Project

The Honours Project is the accumulation of the three previous briefs, creating a final design solution based on their site and location analysis, cultural and social understanding to create a sustainable community, not only for their building but for environmental, cultural, and financial sustainability. You will find a wide range of visual styling. However, this is encouraged to work with the students to create their visual styling as an individual designer.

Past Student Work

Below is a range of work created by past students

By year 4, the students have a well-rounded set of skills allowing them to work independently to select, research, and analyse data to be able to run a full academic year project, finessing their skill set to become a well-rounded designer prepared for the real world of design. In this final project, students will develop their own style and process to design that work to their strengths as designers.

What is Studio H?

Studio H is the Interior design course at HBU; the university is in Baoding, Hebei province in china. The course is run by a multitude of staff from a range of disciplines offering an in-depth and forward-thinking approach to design and today's design issues that is facing in the design world. This is based on the students developing their design thinking to become well-rounded designers, preparing them for their careers in design.

The structure of Studio H

Year 2 We build the student's design principles to help create a sturdy foundation to form a well-rounded Interior designer. This year the students will develop both digital and physical technical skills as well as build communicative abilities to discuss their ideas and concepts accurately. Year3 We work on the foundation to start developing the student's skills and abilities to work not only as an individual but as a team. In this year, the students build their understanding of design and users through a range of projects that will prepare them for the final challenges of their final 4th year at the university. Year 4 By year 4, the students have a well-rounded set of skills allowing them to work independently to select, research, and analyse data to be able to run a full academic year project, finessing their skill set to become a well-rounded designer prepared for the real world of design. In this final project, students will develop their own style and process to design that work to their strengths as designers.
